Girl Date – Rock of Ages Premiere

A few days ago, Helene invited me to watch the Rock of Ages premiere in Times Square. I’d never heard of the movie, but according to Fandango, it had a great cast (Katherine Zeta-Jones and Alex Baldwin, yay) and fun ’80s music. Also, it was a free. Sold.

Without giving too much away, this was the perfect girl date movie – one part comedy and two parts musical. Katherine Zeta-Jones lit up every scene she was in. She played the conservative wife of the mayor of L.A. with a hidden agenda against Stacee Jaxx, Tom Cruise’s bad ass rocker. She was hilarious and the highlight of the film for me.

Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand were a riot as well – they sang duets! Freshmen Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta were performed well also. Their love story was cheesy but then again this was a musical set in the 80s. Being tacky is pretty much a prerequisite.

All the actors sang – even Paul Giamatti. The covers included lots of Journey, Def Leppard, Twisted Sister, and the one song Poison had. You know, the one about the desert rose and swallowing your tears.

Rock of Ages premieres this Friday, June 15. Is anyone planning on watching it?
